Comebacks this season never were a problem for members of the TAV 17 Blue volleyball team – not even in championship matches.
Having taken a 1-0 set lead, the Texas Advantage Volleyball squad trailed FORZA1 17 UA of California by nine points 19-10 in the second set of the 17 USA national title match of the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships in Indiana. But TAV never panicked, going on a dramatic 17-6 run to win the set and match before a frenzied pack of fans and players.
“It’s really special because this group worked their butts off and they deserved it,” said TAV coach Whitney Sample, a former Kentucky player.
It marked TAV’s third championship this season, following 17 USA victories in the Red Rock Rave in Las Vegas and the Lone Star Classic in Dallas. The trifecta also locked in TAV 17 Blue as the No. 1 team in the final 17s non-Open poll for the 2018-19 season.
The USA Nationals wrapped up a long club season that included some competitive national qualifiers during the spring and the AAU Junior Nationals at Disney that preceded USAV.
