Below are our 31 finalists for 2019 PrepVolleyball.com National HIGH SCHOOL Sophomore of the Year. Our plan was for 30 but there was one more we just could not leave out!
Before we reveal the finalists, here’s a little bit about the process: Beginning in mid-November and continuing through this morning, I asked coaches across the country to nominate worthy candidates and to supply statistics and a narrative in support.
The requirements were steep: to be considered, a top sophomore had to make a “massive” impact on her high school team and the state. “Massive” is a subjective term, but at a minimum required that she be a varsity starter and have stats that were among the team’s best and the state’s best. Playing on a team that won a state title, advanced far in the state tournament and/or was nationally ranked was also helpful.
PrepVolleyball.com has received many nominations to date, from which the 31 finalists were selected.
I want to stress that the recognition is based on HIGH SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT in 2019, not future collegiate success. What matters is the impact you had on your team and your state this past fall.
NOTE: there are still dozens of sophomores deserving of recognition in our Soph 79 that I have yet to hear about. Coaches only should immediately tell us about them at this link, https://prepvolleyball.wufoo.com/forms/pumsnxa1n5bo1h/, for inclusion in our top sophomore list.
The National Sophomore of the Year winner will be announced within the next month.
