Thirty-two teams went to Chicago on the hunt for the Gold in 15 Open at the Windy City Qualifier. Seven of those teams had bids already, leaving 25 searching for one of their own. It was unknown how it would play out – with the trickle-down reaching the eighth-place finisher, would just one team leave with a bid? That was a possibility, so from the get-go, the target was focused to get those teams out of Gold.
However, all seven teams advanced to Gold after the first day of competition, but only six could move on from there, opening up at least one more bid. Circle City 15 Purple, Lions 15-1, and TK Volleyball 15 Rise had each punched their ticket to USAV Nationals at previous qualifiers and were in the same pool on Day 2... only two could advance.
