Coaches and clubs are chiming in after the breaking news hit this week that the Colorado Crossroads, Mideast, and Pacific Northwest Qualifiers would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. The first week (11-14s and 15 American) of the ASICS Show Me Qualifier has also been postponed indefinitely. The Windy City Qualifier is the most recent major event to be called off.

Each qualifier has made a statement and at this time, and you may see each in one place on the USAV website, here. The AAU has also suspended its events for three weeks and has issued a statement that promises updates, here. The JVA has cancelled the Southern Sprawl (March 28-29) and will update the status of its other events, here.

In the meantime, I believed that this meant that clubs would practice with an emphasis on training versus competition which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But then, the word was out that several clubs had followed the direction of the USAV's recommendation. That is, “that all USAV sanctioned events scheduled through March 22 be postponed or cancelled to ensure the safety of our athletes, spectators and staff.”
