NCAA DI Waiver Falls Short in Addressing Request for Early Access
FacebookTwitterEmailPrint

Last week, we reported that the NCAA Division I Council extended the dead period for Division I programs once more, now through August 31st. Along with that, the Council made an effort to address the pre-season start date by awarding a waiver for athletics programs in sports other than football.

The statement read: “Fall preseasons generally begin a specific number of days prior to the first scheduled regular season contest. The waiver allows teams to count back from the first day contests are allowed, instead of a team’s actual scheduled first contest.”

Let’s take a look at what this actually means and why college coaches think this decision falls short in helping them prepare for the upcoming fall season.
