ATLANTA – Club volleyball coaches often say it’s the second day that separates the contenders from the also-rans in three-day tournaments. And the players proved it during an action-packed second round of pool play Sunday in the Mizuno Big South Qualifier.
Plenty of teams that entered the USVBA national qualifier as a top-10 seed found themselves knocked off their perch and battling to stay alive in the three-day event. Things were especially unsettling in the 17 American and 17 USA divisions, where multiple high seeds fell to defeat.
Making things dramatic leading into Monday’s final bracket assignments were an array of talented players in the 15, 16 and 17 age-group divisions. Here are the some of the standouts in non-Open divisions from Day 2 action:
